About Candr Education

Our Background

CRAIG CHANNELL
A highly experienced and knowledgeable teacher trainer, coupled with a thoughtful and creative approach, Craig Channell has established two separate and highly successful School Centred Initial Teacher Training schemes. The original, pioneering scheme was considered “outstanding” by Ofsted. The DfE rated it one of the top three SCITTs in the country.
In all Craig has had the responsibility of personally recruiting and training hundreds of trainees. He has presented nationally on teacher training and his views on teacher recruitment have been sought by government ministers.
In 2011 Craig, together with Rob Higgins, led the team that created an innovative Teacher Training scheme for a large academies chain, training both primary and secondary trainees. Within three years they took this from conception to an Ofsted rating of “Good” (the highest grade achievable, given the relative infancy of the course) - with exceptional outcomes in terms of standards and subsequent recruitment of trainees.
A former Vice Principal of two large and successful comprehensive schools and a curriculum specialist, Craig led Heads of Faculty and Pastoral Teams to outstanding outcomes He also designed a bespoke CPD programme for a consortium of schools
On behalf of these schools, Craig set up and ran a large vocational partnership of over 300 learners which included setting up a commercially sited skills centre, leading a group of deputy heads and line managing a centre manager who ran the day-to-day operations.
Craig's background in the Psychology of Education and Organisation, coupled with his skills of evaluation and forward planning have transformed the ability and effectiveness of school teams and individuals.
He brings this formidable experience and skill set to his work with Candr.
ROB HIGGINS
A successful headteacher for over 17 years, Rob Higgins was appointed an NLE for his London Challenge work with schools in London and Bristol where he developed training programmes for school leaders as well as contributing to local and national conferences on leadership and recruitment.
Rob has also worked as an LA adviser and advised Headteachers and Governors on recruitment, Ofsted preparation and performance management. A trained coach and facilitator, he has also delivered coaching training to teachers and middle leaders.
Rob’s success as headteacher was founded upon a drive to develop the skills, confidence and commitment of teaching staff, from trainees through NQTs to middle and senior leaders.
His approach was recognised by Ofsted: “The headteacher, described as 'outstanding' at the time of the previous inspection, continues to lead the school in an exemplary way; he is widely viewed as both 'inspirational' and 'open'...One colleague spoke for many when he described the headteacher's highly effective 'nurturing' which enables less experienced teachers to develop into effective teachers and, often, leaders.”
